For guys that aren’t just out of college, keeping up with technology can be pretty daunting. It’s a known fact that the Taiwanese are way ahead of us there. In Taiwan, hardly anybody ever uses their cell phones for talking anymore. They have email, internet access, games, books and just about everything else on their phones. For this reason, it’s important for guys to get with the program and learn how to do this, especially since our cell phones are starting to get more sophisticated too.
When you meet a Taiwanese woman, it’s a good idea to swap not only phone numbers but cell phone email addresses as well. Taiwanese women are more used to communicating this way since it’s what they do at home. You can text her to arrange the next date or nail down details.
Once you’ve gotten her email address, maintain consistent contact with her. This doesn’t mean that you should email her everyday, but what lots of guys do is send a flurry of emails the next day or so, following up with a meeting, and then they stop. Instead, what you should do is keep in touch with her. Send her a message every so often to see how she’s doing.
This is another thing that’s tough for those of us who came before the email revolution – what do you say in a text message? It seems a bit impersonal to lots of older men. Keep in mind that you should always make the conversations about her. Ask how she’s doing, what she’s up to and mention something about her occasionally. This shows that you are paying attention.
Another great thing to text about is some inside joke that you share. If there was something funny that happened when you met, bring this up. Keep this in your dialogs between you. This is called psychological isolation; it sets the two of you apart from the rest of the world and creates a bond between you. This is important in building relationships anyone, but it’s a great topic for your texts.
You should also learn to use emoticons. These are those weird little smiley faces and graphics that you can send. Taiwanese women love these and they use them constantly. They’re not only popular with young women but with women of all ages and classes. I remember being surprised when an elegant and mature Taiwanese woman I met and began seeing sent me a message full of sparkly stars, funny faces and exaggerated punctuation marks! Emoticons are universal for all Taiwanese women.
When carrying on conversations through email, be patient for her responses. It may take a Taiwanese woman longer to get back to you because she may have issues with English. Even if her spoken English is good, writing may be another matter. Part of this is that she may be shy or lack confidence in her English writing skills, so don’t expect quick responses.
Finally, never discuss anything serious through texting. All of your messages should be light and fun. It’s bad form to fight, break up or have serious conversations through email. Taiwanese men do this all of the time and Taiwanese women hate it.
This technology isn’t going to go away, so learn how to use it. Taiwanese women are the most technologically savvy in the world, so it’s essential.
